Yarn Shops and Websites

When your a beginner at knitting or crochet the huge variety of yarns and patterns can be daunting. I've created a list of shops and websites that I feel have a good selection of yarns, patterns or general knitting accessories.

If you have any stores (whether local or websites) that you feel should be added to the list drop me a line. Feedback from any of the stores would be great.

Online Stores and Magazines

Knitty: Knitty is the longest running free knitting magazine. Knitty is published quarterly and is a brilliant source of patterns. If you are keen in designing patterns you can submit your item for the chance to have it reviewed and potentially advertised in the magazine. Knitty also has an online coffee shop where people can discuss the current topics or share ideas.

MillaMia: A Scandinavian based company that specialise in contemporary baby and children's knitting patterns.  This is not a website to browse if your on a budget. The website is simple and informative which promote the yarns beautifully. The collections have a Scandinavian influence and the yarns are changed with every season to reflect the current trends. The yarns can be bought through the website, amazon or a number of selected stores in the UK.

Twist Collective: This is another great free online magazine. It is published quarterly and contains a wealth of beautiful patterns. Unlike some magazines the patterns are modern and presented with gorgeous photographs. There are interesting articles to browse through giving tips and techniques.

South West England

Get knitted: Get knitted is a large local yarn store based in Brislington, Bristol.
They have a large range of yarns and patterns.

John Lewis: Obviously John Lewis is a large department store. The Bristol store based in Cribbs Causeway has a lovely haberdashery department which sells a large selection of Rowan, Debbie Bliss and Sirdar yarns. They also stock knitting accessories and a good selection of pattern books.

North West England

Black Sheep Wools: The black sheep wools has just had released a new website which is much prettier and user friendly. This website prides itself on discounted yarn, knitting patterns and accessories. (If found somethings to have been reduced my a massive 55%! They also cater for some crochet, sewing and needle craft. I have used them a number of times and delivery is quick. They also answer any questions you may have about any of their products. Definitely a must visit website.
